Christo and Jeanne-Claude in Palermo, Italy

You can visit the exhibition “Christo and Jeanne-Claude. Works in the Würth Collectionuntil the 8th of January 2012, in Duke of Montalto Hall, the Normans’ Palace, in Indipendenza Square, in Palermo.

It’s composed of photos, drawning and pictures of artistic projects, “sculptures” and very particular works of art, showing the style and the touch of the Noveau Realism, that, from the end of the 50s, after he met his future wife Jeanne-Claude, who helped always him in his works until her death, has get together various artists from very different countries, all joined in a common purpose: they wished to promote a new perceptible approach to reality and to take possession of the objects, from the most common and simple object to the monument or the urban park.

All the creations of Noveau Realism are assemblies, compressions, decollages, "trap-paintings", ironic and useless machines and… Christo’s wrappings!

Christo Javacheff, this Bulgarian painter, began painting and wrapping after he went to Paris, at the end of 50s, starting with oil barrels. Then he left Paris and went to New York and his activity became famous in the world.

What can you see in the exposition? You can see his preparatory drawnings and pictures of his future projects, some sculptures and photos. All of his works of art are wrapped.

Christo wraps a lot of objects: from road signs to trees, from horses to phones or chairs and tables until great public and very symbolic monuments, as the palace of Reichstag, that Christo wrapped after various attempts, after 30 years, for 14 days.

Perhaps Christo wishes to amaze and to attract or to guard or to take possession because it’s modern man’s typical attitude.

The exposition is really interesting but all the corollary is out.

Why?

1) the ticket is 3 € and you discover it when you are there;
